Not being ...I believe John is on to something here. Not being a Hebrew scholar I defer to those who are, but I detect a sense of truth in this explanation of anger in the workings & slanderous words of those promoting satan's policies today. Various news commentators have voiced amazement at the harsh, deep anger of those opposed to God's ways as well as His people and His word. I've seen this myself and pondered the anger they exude. They say vile things against righteousness and accuse the innocent of their own misdeeds. Hopefully we take on the character of Christ as we seek him. Those who oppose Him take on the character of the enemy. I heard it said once that satan has great intelligence, but he has no wisdom.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02929406150718370081noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1674189885370836681.post-70881447507139255322019-04-29T17:21:05.779-04:002019-04-29T17:21:05.779-04:00Hi John. Thank you. I am aware of the ap ki and its ...JM --

Thank you. I am aware of the ap ki and its causal qualities, and too, it is more fully: ap ki amar -- adding "he said" where amar is structurally attached to the ki not to the ap. In Lambdin, ki has "many potential meanings" in the middle of a sentence (as here, and as opposed to the more common suffix position): "for," "if," "because," or "that."

Now, if (as a homonym) it is a conjunction particle, then as an emotional intensifier, how would "Indeed!" work in context as a translation? And as you know well, in Hebrew the context largely determines the translation of a given word or clause. Is the serpent saying to the woman, "Indeed! Did Elohim really say?" Why do none of the 26 translations I have read here even attempt to translate the ap?

Or (on the flip side of the homonym)is it the nounal form of anap? The anger would thus be noted as he challenges Elohim directly: "And the serpent said in anger, 'Did Elohim really say?' " Thus, here where he also follows through and changes Yahweh Elohim's language from moth tamuth ("in dying you will continually die") to lo moth tamuthon ("in dying you will not continually die"), adding the negative and thus calling Yahweh Elohim a liar (from 3:4 in reference back to 2:17). The whole profile of Satan across the Tanakh and NT is one of uncontrollable anger, and as Jesus says, he is a murderer and a liar from the beginning (John 8:44).

I study Jewish scholarship, and my PhD work is on a Jewish scholar. And too, there is a great difference between modern Hebrew as a wonderfully resurrected language ca. 1880ff, and biblical Hebrew. Also, Jewish scholars do not know how to identify the serpent except as some sort of animal; whereas the apostle John identifies Satan as "the ancient serpent" (an incarnational masquerade) in the Book of Revelation (12:9; 20:3), as one who has great wrath when kicked out of the heavens by the archangel Michael (12:12), and, indeed, the whole profile of Satan in the Tanakh and NT is one of such anger.

Genesis 1-2 has a proactive theology (Yahweh Elohim's nature), a proactive anthropology (the image of God), but there is nothing in the Bible that ever gives a proactive profile to Satan -- he only appears in the reactive, as does darkness to light. And of this the apostle John is aware, as he names Satan in the final chapter of an angry reaction being ended -- rebellion against the creation to the final redemption where the rebellion implodes.

And as noted, the anger arising from man's frustration in face of the curse, its explosion w/Cain, then Lemech on forward, speaks for its causal realities, and thus back to ki in larger context.

Great territory to explore.

What is Albanian raki?

All blessings -- JohnJohn Rankinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10711449559364529426noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1674189885370836681.post-789029682757361902018-12-03T22:32:41.938-05:002018-12-03T22:32:41.938-05:00John,you need some more Albanian raki, the phrase ...John,you need some more Albanian raki, the phrase is (אף כי) "AP KY" and not just AP.
